Welcome to our latest set of pictures, and our latest update for the fantastic new Corvera Golf and Country Club.

The last time we were at Corvera Golf it was a horrible rainy day and even though the pictures were pretty good, we were of course disappointed that we could not show you all the progress of the resort on a beautiful sunny day.

Well there’s good news folks! It was a fantastic sunny November 12th and although this latest set of pictures will be quite similar to the ones we took 3 weeks ago, I am sure you are all very happy to see as many pictures as possible. We also thought you would appreciate seeing just how much the development has progressed and to see that this is going to be a great place to visit when the weather is so terribly cold and in the UK and Ireland (and the rest of Northern Europe)! The weather is fantastic over here at the moment, a cool 21 degrees on the day we shot these pictures, wow!

Our visit this time was even more exciting, the views were great, the temperature was great, we actually commented that it is a shame we couldn’t play the Corvera golf course! Just another 12 months and we are assured that the course will be ready to play, make a note in your diaries for October/November 2009 and don’t forget the club house is all set to be open for the same time, and again we are assured that it is going to be a golf course and golf club house to be very proud of.

Loads more infrastructure in now place, millions of workers everywhere… well a couple of dozen anyway, as I said “really excited and getting carried away” but seriously folks, this place is really going to be worth the wait, what an absolute wonderful location!

The road and entrance outside the resort has all now been changed, very difficult to keep up with the work everywhere and it is official, just 3 and a half minutes to the new “Corvera airport” with the flight path nowhere near Corvera Golf and Country Club. Construction at the airport is progressing nicely, please see our previous report with limited pictures (link above).

If you like our pictures and updates, please leave your comments, it is the only way we know that all you concerned owners out there are happy with this new information site for Corvera Golf and Country Club.

Keep visiting, we will be back soon with some great news and some fantastic new pictures.

We drove from Corvera Golf and Country Club to the airport works entrance during our visit at the end of last month and were most enthused to find work happening everywhere! In this article we offer the latest news and opinion about Corvera airport, as well as a gallery of pictures. Click here to see the gallery, and optionally leave a comment!

Cranes at Corvera Airport!

There has been a lot of rumours flying concerning the new airport in Corvera. Including, as per usual, some nay-sayers predicting that it would never be built, or that it will take years to finish. It’s never as bad or slow as some people think, and usually, once a project is started in Spain it often exceeds expectations by completion. Just look at Roda Golf, which is bedding in so beautifully, and Corvera Golf and Country Club (see full our report from last week) which is taking shape as one of the premier golfing complexes in Europe! We think that people forget how long huge projects like this take to complete in the UK, and how they very often go over time….and budget!

When we were in Corvera last week with our photographer we drove out past the airport, and were pleased to see much activity. There are numerous portacabins for workers, and cranes evident along the horizon. Access roads for construction vehicles and personnel have been made. Corvera airport is being built. Right now, there were additional portacabins being constructed as we were there and clearly there is a massive amount of work currently being undertaken with yet more workers still to arrive.

As far as we can make out the first stone was laid on the 3rd of July between Corvera and Fuente Alamo (Google map). The national Spanish news papers report that Corvera Airport is intended to serve a comprehensive range of UK and European low-cost airlines (Companies mentioned include Ryanair, Vueling, Air Europa, Air France, Iberia and TUI, amongst others), and that it is hoped to commence flights in there in 2010. It has been widely speculated that the airport would take two years to build. So 2010 seems reasonable…even if it is late 2010!

Development of the new, privately run, airport will take place in two stages, the first will cater for up to 1.5 million passengers a year (running 24 hours a day) and is projected to cost 106 million euros, and the second stage will cater for a further 3 million passengers at an estimated 45 million Euros. In contrast Aena Spanish Airports puts passenger volume at San Javier airport last year at close to 2 million people on more than 20,000 flights. As a private airport, Corvera will be able to offer lower fairs and greater flexibility than the airlines receive at state-managed “Aena” airports. The total area will be 300 hectares, with a runway of 3,000 metres. It will have five hangars, and will be able to handle seven flights every hour. The construction, and forty year management contract has been awarded to Aeromur S.A. They have employed “Sacyr” to carry out construction work. (You can see their sign in our photos too)

It was inevitable really that that a new airport would have to be built. Major expansion work continues at the existing San Javier airport, just like Alicante airport, which is expanding as we speak. This year, it is expected that passenger numbers at San Javier will be approaching two million! Indeed between January and July this year there were more than 900,000 passengers arriving at San Javier, a 24% increase on the same period for last year! The area has to have a new airport! We predict that we will be arriving at that airport soon, from rainy England, ready for a round at Corvera. Just wait and see!

We also timed our journey from the Corvera Golf and Country Club to the airport and it took less than 5 minutes, the flight path is nowhere near the resort so this is absolutely fantastic, for those worrying about Corvera Golf and Country Club, it may take a little longer to achieve the true investment potential, or to be the completed 5 star resort we hoped for, but in our opinion it is inevitable that it is going to happen and with the new airport well under construction, this is just another step in the right direction, look out for further news and updates shortly and please feel free to leave your comments.

Below we have the gallery of pictures we took on our visit. These pictures are, as always, available in very high resolution on our Flickr page!

Introduction

Welcome to the new and exciting Corvera Golf information web site, the newest and most up to date web site with lots of great pictures and information regarding Corvera Golf and Country Club.

We have been very busy with our sister web site for your sister resort at www.rodagolfinfo.com, however we are now going to concentrate on bringing you all the latest news and information regarding the fantastic gated resort of Corvera Golf and Country Club.

We are going to start by providing these pictures (see gallery below) from our most recent visit to Corvera Golf and provide our very own thoughts on the progress to date and of course the potential for the resort generally. If you click on the pictures in the gallery you can see that we added some comments on most of the pictures, explaining where you are and what you are seeing. Also please note that the pictures are available on our Flickr page here in (massive!) full size resolution!

Our report

We visited Corvera Golf and Country Club on Thursday 23rd October with our camera ready to go only to find that the weather was terrible, it rained all day, however we did get some great pictures of the apartment blocks, the views from the front line apartments and we managed to drive around the development.

The apartments were very specious and the “frontline” properties we visited were the Tilo style, the views were just unbelievable and whoever owns these “frontline” properties are in for a real treat, complete uninterrupted views across the golf course towards the mountains in the distance, even in the rain we were just “blown away at the sheer scale of it all.

There is so much wide open spaces, so many excellent views and the infrastructure work that has been completed can only really be appreciated from inside the resort.

The amount of work already undertaken is colossal, the pavements with the block stones or pavement bricks, the roads and street lighting and the stone walls everywhere look just fantastic, like all the owners at Corvera we have been a little apprehensive, what with the delays and the current economic climate, but we came away from Corvera completely enthused and excited all over again.

We visited the location for the hotel and clubhouse where lots of infrastructure work has already been completed, the location is fantastic and the golf course covers the most enormous area, regarding the golf course, there have been lots of trees planted along side the various fairways, all drainage and water systems are in place, all the fairways have been marked out and the greens have been prepared, we expect the course to be seeded from next March.

To stand at the location of the clubhouse and proposed De Vere hotel and look back to the sales office gives some idea of the vastness of the whole development, it is fair to say that we were very happy with what we saw.

We had an opportunity to have a look at the villas and semi-detached properties in the South island and again it all looked fabulous, the “frontline” villas will have superb views and were very spacious, great plots and again a sense of being in the country with huge wide open spaces.

There was a massive amount of work going on with construction workers busy all over the resort.

I would like to point out that during our visit we were supervised at all times by Corvera staff and every safety precaution was observed, this is after all a construction site with heavy plant and machinery all over the place.

Our initial overall opinion is that the resort has the potential to be one of the best in Spain, quite possibly Europe, the properties are very spacious with huge terraces, spectacular views, the location is awesome and with the new airport well under construction, this place is going to be very popular for people all over Europe looking for something just a little different and a little special.

We have some great pictures to accompany this first report, there will be lots more pictures and we will be providing an update regularly, all feedback would be greatly appreciated.

The gallery

Remember, you can click for an explanation and these pictures are also available in high resolution on our Flickr page

Here to oversee his companies design work on the Corvera course, he had warm words for the state of construction and the future! Please click here to see the story, pictures, and optionally leave a comment!

José María Olazábal visits Corvera!

Jose Maria Olazabal’s golf course design activity has been intense for years, with more than ten courses already designed throughout Spain, including the Real Golf Club in Seville, the Costa Ballena in Cadiz and La Sella in Alicante.

José María Olazábal is one of the most active players on the International Golf Circuit and has an excellent track record, including two Masters, four Ryder Cups and twenty-two victories on the European Circuit! This July he made a private visit to Corvera Golf and Country Club, in Murcia. He was there to oversee work on the new golf course he has designed together with his company Integral Golf Design.

From eight until noon, he toured the 18 holes of the course currently under construction, to review the progress of the work and suggest improvements, particularly with regard to the provision of tees, bunkers and greens. The Fuenterrabia (location guide) player was highly satisfied with the work carried out to date and with the great potential of the course, which occupies seventy hectares and measures over 6,700 metres from the professional tees.

Owing to the partnership of Corvera Golf & Country Club and its parent company, Calidona, with the European PGAs (Corvera has been designated the future winter headquarters of this prestigious institution) and the quality of the course itself, Olazábal stated after his visit that Corvera Golf course would, without a doubt, host a European Tour tournament in the near future.

The work is expected to continue throughout the coming months, with sowing planned for next Spring, so that the new golf course will be ready to open towards the end of 2009!

Antonio López, manager of Corvera Golf & Country Club, commented that “Olazábal’s visit has been an important event in the development of the project, confirming the high expectations placed on the golf course and the impact of this great player’s involvement in his design work”. López added that, “to accompany Chema for 5 hours on the course, noting his many suggestions for improvement, and sharing with him his impressive knowledge of the sport, has been an extraordinary experience for everyone”.
